Well, don’t we all.
Books can teach us, nurture us, or entertain us.
We get our sense of humor from books. We seek adventure in their pages. We also learn about love.
Some of the best and most romantic words ever thought of can be originally found between the pages of a book.
Below are 5 lines you can say to your loved one and come off as both romantic and well-read all at once. Read through and try a few on your honey.
But use them with caution; these lines are powerful.
Defiance, by C. J. Redwine
The first line comes to us from Defiance, a novel by C. J. Redwine set in a city-state where women bend to the will of their male Protectors. However, the protagonist, Rachel, rebels against the law of the land, honing herself into a strong hunter.
When her father is declared dead after failing to return to the city-state following a courier mission and she is assigned a new Protector in the form of her father’s apprentice, Rachel decides to flee the city-state and find her father.
She is followed by Logan, her new Protector. In the wasteland outside the walled city-state, they find romance and heartbreak. Logan’s words are our first one-liner. He tells Rachel, “No matter what has happened. No matter what you’ve done. No matter what you’ll do. I will always love you. I swear it.” Pretty romantic.
Boundless, by Cynthia Hand
Another good line is from Cynthia Hand’s Boundless, the final book in the Unearthly series. In this book, protagonist Clara must decide her fate once and for all in the battle against the Black Wings, and her choice won’t come without heartache and betrayal.
From this complicated situation, we have the very uncomplicated line: “I wanted to tell you that wherever I am, whatever happens, I’ll always think of you, and the time we spent together, was my happiest time.”
Tucker Avery gets straight to the point. He is as clear and uncomplicated as his declaration, and nothing cuts to the heart faster than total honesty.
Across the Universe, by Beth Revis
For our next flirty one-liner, we go to Beth Revis’ Across the Universe. Following the story of seventeen-year-old Amy who wakes from a three-hundred-year-long cryogenic slumber fifty years too early, Across the Universe is a sci-fi thriller of epic proportions.
Comparing lovers to the cosmos isn’t new, but it’s always romantic. “And in her smile, I see something more beautiful than the stars” is a beautiful and sweet line that’ll have your object of affection melting.
Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
From the minds of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, we get our next line. Their book Beautiful Creatures centers on Ethan and his infatuation with the mysterious and beautiful Lena, with whom he shares a telepathic connection.
Though their relationship starts out rocky, they eventually begin to fall in love, giving us the following line: “I never loved you any more than I do, right this second, and I’ll never love you any less than I do, right this second.” Nothing like declaring unending love to warm the heart.
Infernal Devices, by Cassandra Clare and Joshua Lewis
Our last line is from the third novel in the Infernal Devices series, Clockwork Princess. In this thrilling series set in Victorian London, Tessa must master newfound powers and forge an alliance with mysterious Shadowhunters to survive a dangerous world and find her missing brother.
In her journey, she falls equally for two Shadowhunters, Jem and Will, and in the final installment of the series, she must trust them to protect her from the greatest threat she’s ever faced. From this novel, we get our last flirty one-liner, a line from Will.
It’s only six words but conveys the most desperate level of emotion. “I’m catastrophically in love with you.” Direct to the point and absolutely romantic.
