What Is Aesthetic Medicine?

Aesthetic medicine is a term that applies to any procedure that helps make a person look better or alters their physical appearance. This includes things as invasive as reconstructive surgery and non-invasive procedures that are often more cosmetic. You can learn about some of the non-surgical procedures from Lisa Rush.

Some of these non-invasive procedures include things like facials, chemical peels, skin tightening, and even hair and tattoo removal. Botox injections and fillers are also under the umbrella of non-invasive aesthetic medicine.

Reasons why people might opt for some of these treatments include wanting to boost their self-esteem or diminish the physical signs of the aging process. Sometimes, aesthetic medicine is required when people have certain medical conditions or have been through some type of trauma or injury.

In the last decade, there have been many advances in non-surgical aesthetic medicine. This article talks about some of the most popular procedures.

Facials and Chemical Peels

There are many types of chemical peels. Some are stronger than others. However, what you need to keep in mind is that this is a medical procedure. It’s non-surgical, but chemicals will be peeling off layers of skin. You’ll need downtime and possibly, pain management.

This depends on the type of peel and your skin type, but just be aware of what you’re getting into. The deeper the peel, the longer it takes to heal. You can experience redness, soreness, and irritation. That being said, the deeper ones usually have better results. These peels can help improve skin texture and help with age spots and other pigmentation issues.

Micro Dermabrasion

This is a more gentle way to rejuvenate the skin. This can help minimize pores, minimize the appearance of scarring, and help reduce the appearance of sun damage. A device containing microcrystals is run over the surface of the skin.

This signals your body to rebuild and repair this area of your skin. The result is the removal of dead cells and the appearance of fresh, new skin. This is a great way to refresh and rejuvenate.

Laser Hair Removal

The procedure of laser hair removal destroys the root of your hair, preventing further growth. It’s not without issues, though. It may take several treatments to actually destroy the hair follicle because the success of the procedure depends on which growth phase it’s in. It’s also not painless. Burning your hair follicle and root with a laser packs a punch. Your skin will also be sore afterward.

You also need to be aware that the laser may not make perfectly straight lines. Be sure and make it clear to your aesthetician what parts you do and don’t want to be lasered. Preparation for the procedure includes shaving and possibly using a numbing cream to help take some of the edges off.

Dermal Fillers and Injections

Things like Botox and other fillers can be used to diminish lines, plump up sagging skin, and make lips look fuller. These procedures don’t take long, and the price isn’t out of reach for many people. Depending on where the injection is, it could hurt. The amount of pain depends on where the procedure is. Botox in your forehead doesn’t hurt as much as an injection in your lip.

Keep in mind that building your self-esteem and loving yourself could be an easier, cheaper, and more beneficial solution. But then, when these options are necessary, take the time to do your homework and make sure you agree to a safe procedure by a qualified professional.
