We’ve all been there before, getting trapped in an awkward moment when someone deliberately asks you an irritating annoying question regarding your marital status. For single women, situations like this seem to happen more often than we’d hope. It’s as if being single isn’t as frustrating enough (for some of us), people have to bombard us with annoying questions that we’ve probably heard a billion times already.

Do you want to know what ticks us off? Here are five annoying questions that single women are tired of hearing.

Are you dating anyone?

Is it just me or does everyone I know seem to think that being in a relationship with someone is the most important thing in the world? That life can only evolve if you’ve a significant other? To some people this may be true but to the many single women out there dating isn’t something we fill our thoughts and minds with every minute of the day – of course maybe one of these days we hope to find our match, but as for the moment, we’ve got other priorities to think about.

Is that your boyfriend?

Just because I have a male being sitting next to me in a picture or a male friend whom I invite to a social gathering doesn’t automatically make him my boyfriend. You see, one of the perks of being single is that you can have a close relationship with any male friends and not mean anything – no issue, no drama, and no commitments – just pure friendship. Asking a single woman if so and so is their boyfriend can create quite a stir and can turn a lovely conversation into an awkward situation, so please stop with the asking.

annoying questions

Have you ever thought about getting married?

Well of course, most women have already dreamt about their wedding dress and what flavor their cake will be ever since they were just little girls but we all know not everything we dream for will come true (for the meantime) – the same goes with marriage. This annoying questions is not exactly what single women are fond of hearing especially when finding that someone to get married to isn’t even in the picture yet. Let us worry first about finding a man who will sweep us off our feet for now and then we’ll send you the wedding invitations later.

Are you going to bring a date?

Is it a requirement to bring a date with you to weddings, company parties, or any other social events? Single women can get by with wearing a gorgeous designer dress, a pair of super expensive heels, and a bottle of wine – who says a single girl can’t have fun without a date tagging along? Besides, most of the time bringing a date can put a lot of pressure on a woman , not to mention all the people who will constantly ask, “Is this your boyfriend?” or “Is this the one you’ve been talking about?”, which I must say can get a little awkward.

Table for two?

I know this is just a standard annoying questions for hostess’ to ask customers but if you see me standing there all by myself looking like I’m ready to be seated then it’s pretty obvious that I’m going to need a table for one, not two. What’s even more embarrassing is when you’re standing there next to a male stranger – who is also waiting for a table – and the hostess takes a look at both of you assuming that you two are there together. Yes, I’m a party of one, yes I sometimes enjoy eating by myself, and yes, it’s quite normal.

Enough with these aggravating questions! Singlehood isn’t all about living each day searching for our next potential boyfriend or trying to look good so that we’ll get noticed – we spend this period of time in our lives to know who we are as an individual and see how we can survive without a partner. Rushing into a relationship just because of the influence that society has on you’ll only end terribly, so stop listening to what others persistently shove down your throat because in the end the choice is all up to you.
