While many of these tips apply to everyone, some of them are specific to supporting your overall wellbeing as a woman in this world, and that’s something to celebrate.

While everyone is different and has varying needs for their mental health support, the beauty is that you can try out so many options until you find what’s right for you. Here are just a few of the ways that you can support your mental health, starting right now.

Exercise Regularly — With Something You Love

One of the most important parts of exercising for your mental health is enjoying yourself while you do it. Of course, exercise releases endorphins that can make you happier overall, but you’ll be much more likely to stick to a routine if you enjoy it in the moment.

Eat A Healthy Diet

When you fuel your body with nutritious foods that are high in vitamins and minerals, your body will be able to support your mental health so much better. Even if your body and your mind are somewhat different systems, they’re connected, and treating your body well is a way to treat your mind well.

Reduce Stress

Stress can be difficult on the body and the mind, and it can make a big impact on your overall well being. It’s also a widespread problem in our society. In fact, experts state 75 to 90 percent of doctor’s office visits are because of stress-related conditions and ailments. Whether you engage in stress-reducing activities or reduce your stress straight from the source, it’s a great way to support your mental health.

Stay Hydrated

In the same vein as eating healthy and exercising, drinking enough water is a way to support your body and therefore support your mind. Make sure you take breaks to hydrate during the day.

Get Outdoors

Spending some quality time in the great outdoors — even if that just means taking a walk or reading on your porch — can be a great way to boost your mood and keep your mental health on the up and up. It might not seem like it will help right away, but you might be surprised!

Try Mindfulness

While mindfulness is often tied to meditation, it doesn’t have to be. Even if you aren’t the biggest fan of spirituality, mindfulness might still be a useful tool. Really, it’s all about being present in the current moment and allowing yourself to truly take in the sensations and surroundings of your life. Many people find this calming

Treat Yourself

Everyone has their own definition of treating themselves, and whatever that means to you, it’s important to remember that you can — and deserve to — treat yourself with that latte, yoga class or whatever else calls your name every once in a while.

Build Your Support System

This is important no matter who you are or where you find yourself in your mental health journey. A support system is almost like a found family, and building it is one of the best ways to feel truly connected and secure with the people around you. Whether that means making new friendships or nurturing relationships you already have, building your support system is highly transformative.

Learn How to Say No

This one is especially important for women. All too often, women are conditioned to be people-pleasers without setting proper boundaries. You have to say no sometimes in life, even if it’s hard. If you find yourself struggling to say no, learning to do it can pay off big time in the long run.

Talk With a Professional

If you’re navigating through a specific struggle with your mental health or you want to consider additional treatment like medication, talking with a professional can be the best way forward. While it might be a bit of a journey to find a therapist you like and feel comfortable with, therapy and counseling can be great experiences for personal development and healing.

Let Yourself Be Unproductive

In today’s culture, people often feel like they need to be working and producing in order to live a worthwhile life. For the sake of your mental health, you need to remind yourself that this is so far from the truth. All people need rest, and you should encourage that in your life.

As a woman and as a person living in this world, navigating your mental health can sometimes feel daunting. But no matter where you are on your journey, you can find techniques that work for you and help you thrive.
